Oberthur's Proton Prisma Multiapps Card Is Visa Certified
Oberthur announced it has received certification from both Visa and Proton World for its Prisma Basic Profile (BP) smart card. BP is one of the profiles in the range of Proton Prisma smart card products defined by Proton World: it is a multi-application smart card combining an EMV application with the well-known Proton ePurse.
Proton Prisma BP outstanding technical features include:
CALC (Card and Application Life-Cycle Manager) : A technological platform which manages the life-cycle of the multi-application Proton Prisma BP smart card, including the personalisation phase. CALC is the Proton World implementation of GlobalPlatform GP 2.1 specifications.
EMV PLUS multi-brand application : Proton Prisma BP implements the VISA and MasterCard requirements while allowing domestic brands.
A domestic e-purse application : Proton Prisma BP has a domestic e-purse function fully compatible with existing Proton R3 systems rolled out in 7 countries around the world and licensed by 26 others.
DFM (Data File Manager) : This toolbox allows the customisation of the Proton Prisma BP card with applications such as loyalty, during the personalisation process and also after the card has been issued.
In order to help familiarise the customer's technicians with the different applications during the card's life-cycle (pre-personalisation, personalisation and transaction), Oberthur Card Systems offers a complete kit, including a set of Proton Prisma BP cards, a smart card reader, a reference guide and a set of tools for each standard application (EMV, CALC, R3 and DFM).
Oberthur Card Systems has been a long time partner and supplier of Proton World e-purse solutions. Recently, the company strengthened its position in Belgium, as Banksys, the Belgian electronic funds transfer operator, selected Oberthur Card Systems as one of its suppliers for the next generation of its debit and credit cards based on Proton Prisma technology.
"The Prisma BP certification proves Oberthur Card Systems expertise in secure multi-application products and clearly stresses that the move to EMV will allow issuers to provide multiple services to their cardholders. It will also strengthen Oberthur Card Systems and Proton World's relationship," says Didier Sérodon, Head of Payment, Identification Marketing & Solutions Division.
"With the first Proton Prisma cards now on the market and certified, we are happy to see our customers effectively start the implementation of their migration plans. Oberthur Card Systems has been very instrumental in pushing forward the developments and delivering quality products," says Armand Linkens, CEO of Proton World.
