Oberthur & Welcome Bring EMV Services To Italian Banks
Oberthur Card Systems offers, together with Welcome Real-time, multi-application cards for the EMV migration and more besides, specially for the Italian banks. Based on the low cost EMV card developed by Oberthur Card Systems, Welcome's smart transaction solution may be hosted in standard (cards or platforms) together with the debit-credit application.
Italian card issuers will now be able to offer comprehensive loyalty services to their cardholders, without any change to existing EMV cards.
"Italy is a strategic region for Oberthur. The company currently holds 60% of the magnetic stripe card market and is willing to take the lead in EMV migration in this country. The Italian market, with 33 million cards in circulation, is one of the biggest payment markets in Western Europe. After the United Kingdom, Italy is the second country to initiate the migration to EMV microprocessor cards.
