CardBASE announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with smart card manufacturer Setec in Finland to co-operate with the implementation of Setec's smart card platforms and solutions in conjunction with MASCOT CardBASE's multi-application smart card management solution.

CardBASE and Setec combined, have considerable expertise in the smart card market, and together will provide a comprehensive solution for Banks migrating to EMV for the 2005 deadline. Both companies have ageed to jointly integrate their smart card products and technologies for EMV migration, PKI security cards, electronic ID cards, GSM SIM cards, payment cards and visual ID products.

Nick Searle, VP Sales at CardBASE said, "CardBASE and Setec have known each other for some time and both have acknowledged specific expertise in smart card technology. It was a logical choice to offer the market the combined strengths of each company's products. In addition, the co-operation aims to establish a firm position for the Products and Solutions in the market and to gain market recognition as the preferred choice of such products."

Jarmo Rouhiainen, Senior VP Banking & Retail at Setec said, "Co-operation with CardBASE strengthens further Setec's overall product offering. While Setec is focusing into smart card platforms and key applications for banks, governments and telecoms we can now together with CardBASE provide our customers with a more complete solution including the smart card management systems. A vast number of multi-application smart cards will be issued during the coming years. In these smart card schemes post-issuance of applications becomes vital from the strategic and customer benefit point of view."
