SmartCentric Partners Parcxmart On SmartCity System

By: (Friday, 07 January 2005)

SmartCentric announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with Parcxmart, a specialist in smart card parking payment solutions. As a result of this partnership, there will now be full car parking functionality added to the SmartCity system.

Parcxmart offers a turnkey smart card-based car parking solution for car parking operations. The Parcxmart Cards system is a fully audited solution based on SmartCity technology, which will allow users to "top-up" their parking cards in a manner similar to that commonly used for prepaid mobile phones. The system is fully scaleable to support full city-size car parking schemes.

The Parcxsmart car parking solution uses SmartCity to facilitate the issuance of smart cards, card loading and spending value off the cards. It also allows the system to collect and audit all transactions, thus ensuring the security of the system.

Kieran Timmins, CEO, SmartCentric, is delighted with the new partnership. "Parcxmart needed a smart card system that was market proven, with full scalability, robustness and security while using the latest technology to "top-up" the value on the cards. SmartCity provided them with all those features in a single multi-application system, while also offering the benefit that other applications can be added to the card at any time".

"Based on proven smart card technology, coupled with a unique transaction platform, Parcxmart can provide municipal parking operations with an electronic payments solution that is an easy to use and convenient alternative to coins," said John Regan, President, Parcxmart. "The benefits of offering smart card enabled meters to a parking authority are that operating costs decrease while audit control increases. Merchants benefit because they can generate store traffic and income by selling the cards and reloading value on the cards. The interoperability of these cards means that consumers can use the cards for parking and for purchasing items within participating local stores."
